Haydn in Kobersdorf Castle: The Head of Joseph Haydn.
An intrigue play by Michael Korth
What personality is hidden behind the composer Joseph Haydn, and where did he find inspiration for his ingenious musical creations? Many of us are familiar with his music - but who really knows what Joseph Haydn was like as a person? This gave Artistic Director Wolfgang Böck the idea for a commissioned work, and he asked the renowned author Michael Korth to write a piece for the stage. Der Kopf des Joseph Haydn (The Head of Joseph Haydn) puts the spotlight on the composers personality in an exciting and entertaining way and shows his progress from piano teacher to world-famous composer. But along his path he meets with private and professional turbulences: At the princely court he is surrounded by intrigue and envy. To add to the strain, he is burdened by his unhappy love life and a marriage of convenience. A gentleman named Beethoven leads us knowledgeably through a framework story from Haydns day up to the present. The audience can look forward to intense emotions, illuminating background information and unplumbed depths in this quick-moving piece of theatre, which contains fast-paced dance scenes and surprising musical numbers.
